Changing Images Hair Salon - Brazilian Keratin Straightening Treatment
My hair has always been thick and coarse. It always frizzed no matter what. Even doing just housework and working up a little sweat, my hair would frizz. As a Realtor, I like to look presentable. I'm not a girlie-girl and never have been. But when I meet people I do not want my hair looking like I got married to an electric socket!
My hairstylist, Carol, works at Changing Images in Lindenhurst, New York. She suggested I try the Brazilian hair straightening. I trust Carol 100% but I also know, or at least I thought, I knew my hair. I've tried everything to keep my hair from frizzing, let alone being semi-straight. Nothing ever worked except when she would style my hair. That is the only time my hair would look really good.
In October, 2009 I went ahead and had Carol do the Brazilian straightening. This is the process where they put the Keratin back onto your hair. Keratin is a protein that is found in your hair, nails and skin. I got my hair washed and dried and then Carol put the treatment on. One thing I immediately noticed is how good it smelled. It was a citrus smell. I figured it would smell like a perm but it was no where near that thankfully! Once she put the treatment on, I had to wait for it to set. After that she took the straightening iron and little by little straightened my hair. The entire process took a few hours.
FYI - if you dye your hair you are an even better candidate for this hair treatment. The keratin product clings better to your hair if you dye it. So, dye it the day before you get this treatment or even the morning of.
Now, my hair came out pin straight and I was not used to that. I had to wait 4 days to wash my hair but I waited a week. Didn't want to take any chances. You have to wash your hair with sodium-free shampoo AND conditioner which I purchased there. That brand is Lasio and it works great. Once I washed my hair, I let it air dry. Not one frizzy hair! Now it wasn't styled nice but, NO FRIZZ! Woohoo for me! So, I got out the straightening iron and it only took me 10 minutes where normally it would take me over a half hour just to use the iron! I even got caught in a rain storm and my hair was soaked. Once it dried, there was NO FRIZZ. That was a true test to my hair and I was convinced that I made the right decision!
It's supposed to last anywhere from 4 to 6 months. I'm now on month 3 and it still looks great. Here is a before picture: See my bangs and the frizz? See how "bulky" my hair looks? That is after 2 hours of trying to tame it. Hair should not overtake your face like mine is doing here.

After: Tamed the way hair should be!
