New York Texting While Driving Law July 12th, 2011

As of July 12th, 2011, Governor Andrew Cuomo singed into law to stop texting while driving. The family of a man who was killed by a driver while they were texting and driving were present.

If you are caught "playing" around with your cell phone, you will be pulled over. The fine is $150.00 and 3 points deducted from your New York State Driver License. The days of having to commit another offense like speeding in order to be pulled over for cell phone use are long gone folks.

This law also makes it illegal to use handheld devices for texting, emailing, taking photos, playing games, chatting and anything you else you can think of when it comes to handheld devices.

Here is the deal: DON'T USE YOUR CELLPHONE WHILE DRIVING!

Last night I was driving Eastbound on Route 109 in West Babylon and a woman who was driving a BMW, moved over in my lane twice. Almost hit me both times. We both pulled up at the red light and I look over to see her texting! That is why she almost hit me twice!

So, if you kill or hurt someone while using your cellphone while driving, you deserve the punishment that will be bestowed upon you.
