Sponsor A Child
Earlier this year, Diane Sawyer did a piece on the people that live in the Appalachian Mountains. Most are poor. There are people that are able to get jobs at 18 in the coal mines and that in itself is a whole other story. Very dangerous work but I think the pay rate starts at $65.00 per hour.
Anyway, it got me thinking (my brain never stops). I had started to wonder if there are children here that need sponsoring like there are in other countries outside the U.S. I did a search on Save The Children and I was shocked at how many children there are in the U.S. that need sponsors.
So, that is exactly what I did. Since March of 2009, I sponsor an 11 year old girl that lives in that mountain area. She is so cute. We write each other back and forth as often as possible. I do not know her family's financial situation but this little girl has a dream of becoming a veterinarian. I hope she ends up doing that.
Just wanted to share this and sponsoring a child here in the U.S. has been a humbling experience.
