Anna Kruchten, who is a real estate agent in Phoenix, AZ, just lost a very good friend to texting while driving. Friends, this is serious. Texting while driving is just as bad as drinking and driving but people still do it. They also still talk on their cell phones while driving. Why?!?!
Stop being selfish because the life you save will be someone else's!
Texting while driving: at what cost? Remembering Bob King.
This past Monday, April 4th, my friend of more than 15 years, Bob King, passed away. Bob was visiting Florida in an effort to promote motorcycle safety, when he was hit by a driver who was texting while driving.
I met Bob in the early 90's at Unity Church. Bob was impossible not to like. He was always a gentleman and very
kind to everyone. Bob was just one of those kind of guys who was friendly to everyone he met. He also loved the outdoors and would often celebrate Arizona's beauty by hiking. Bob was part of several groups with me and always a pleasure to have around.
The thing I most admired about Bob was what a great father he was. Bob adopted twins, a boy and a girl, and dedicated his life to them. There was nothing he loved more than spending time with them. I spent a bit of time with the kids and Bob while they're were little ones and it was never a dull moment with them. I just can't imagine these kids loosing their Dad so tragically.
In 2004, Bob finally married the love of his life, Shelly, and they moved to Prescott, Arizona. Bob kept his home here in Phoenix so the kids would have a home base.
At what cost is texting while driving worth it? Although texting while driving is illegal in Arizona, many people still engage in this activity and I can't understand why.
Does it take something as tragic as another husband, father, friend being killed to make people stop texting while driving? How many others will be lost because people just don't get it?
I bring this to your attention in an effort to raise awareness to the dangers of texting while driving. Some people don't realize the significance of the issue after it's too late. You have a responsibility while driving to remain focused and aware of your surroundings. Whoever is texting you can wait the half hour it takes for you to drive home. And if it can't wait, stop. Pull over and use your cell phone. No text is worth a person's life.
Please keep Bob King's family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank You.
