Thanksgiving Will Be Here Before We Know It. Help Someone That Day! by Jackie Connelly Fornuff Lindenhurst Babylon Village Real Estate Long Island New York

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time. We get together with family and friends we haven't seen in a while. We cook, we eat, we laugh. We even laugh together while cleaning off the table and doing dishes. My fondest memories are of watching my Aunt, Mom and their Sister clean up and do the dishes while reminiscing their childhood. Oh the things they would say! They would also talk about their Brother who passed away a few days before Thanksgiving in 2001. He was a good man and I miss him also.

As we all have fun together, think about a person or you may know who needs a little help this Thanksgiving. So many people are out of work and scramble to keep a roof over their heads, other bills to be paid and food on the table. If you know someone who is having a hard time, invite them over to share your Thanksgiving dinner and desert. Or, if you know an older person who spends the holiays alone or is home bound, bring over a plate of hot food for them and a bottle of sparkling cider.

If you have children that go to school with another child who is in need, maybe invite him or her and their family to sit down with you for that day.

Volunteer with your family that day to help out at a soup kitchen.

What am I doing this year to help someone out? There is a homeless man I see around here so I'm hoping I'll be able to find him that day and give him a hot plate of food. There are no soup kitchens near my home so I do not think he'll be able to have a decent dinner that day and I know he doesn't get one every day. He works hard. He walks around with a shopping cart and collects bottles and cans. Then he goes to Stop N Shop and cashes them in then buys some food and something to drink (non-alcoholic). I've seen him do this so that is how I know. I make sure to have a bag of bottles and cans for him when I see him which is not that often and he is always very grateful for it.

No matter what you do that Thanksgiving Day, try and make that day special for someone and go to bed that night knowing you did something to help.
