Fire Island Summer Vacation - A World All Its Own!

There are so many towns for you to choose on Fire Island for your Summer vacation!
Atlantique
The narrowest part of Fire Island, and is hard to get to as sand dunes provide walkways. There are only about 50 homes, and it is a tight community totally committed to boating. Everyone knows each other in Atlantique, and the whole community gathers at the Marina. The ferry offers service to town from the Bay Shore Fire Island ferry terminal.
Cherry Grove
Cherry Grove is a recognized gay friendly community. It is a unique community filled with artistic expression and gorgeously designed homes. Downtown Cherry Grove is popular for its restaurants, clubs, bars and shopping. It is home to art galleries, theater and live entertainment and it is recognized as the foremost gay summer destination in the United States, similar to Cape Cod’s Provincetown. Cherry Grove has many summer shares and rentals and the Sayville Ferry offers service for your convenience.
Corneille Estates
This small community is located to the west of Ocean Beach and young, single professionals flock there. Corneille Estates is a quiet and private village with boardwalks, shaded areas and close access to Ocean Beach as well as baseball field and basketball courts. Ferry service to Corneille Estates is in Ocean Beach, via the Bay Shore line.
Davis Park
Davis Park is is located at the most eastern end of the island. It is is a boaters dream with a 250-boat marina. Davis Park is a mixed of young singles as well as families and homeowners. The Casino is popular among visitors and locals and is a combination of restaurant, bar, snack bar. Davis Park includes three areas, Leja beach, Ocean Ridge and Davis Park. Ferry service is available via the Patchogue Fire Island Ferry.
Dunewood 
Dunewood is a small village consisting of about 100 homes. The community banned group Fire Island rentals and share houses in order to keep the residential feeling of the town. Dunewood is a beach town that is peaceful and serene and is a great destination for those looking for a quiet retreat filled with privacy and serenity. Dunewood is close to Fair harbor, which makes up for its lack of stores, restaurants and other amenities. The town hosts a sailing regatta and offers sailing lessons for those interested. Dunewood is available via Fire Island Ferry from Bay Shore.
Fair Harbor 
Fair Harbor is an active community with 400 homes and a mix of singles and happily vacationing couples. Many New York City dwellers flock to Fair Harbor as they find the atmosphere to be fun, relaxing and casual. Fair Harbor has a liquor store, gourmet food market, post office and spectacular restaurants and bars such as The Dock. It offers great swimming with lifeguards on both the bay and ocean side. They also have their Annual Arts and Crafts Fair.
Fire Island Lighthouse
The Lighthouse on Fire Island is an historic landmark that shouldn't be missed. Constructed in 1857, the Fire Island Lighthouse is revamped and open as a museum and observatory. Sayville Ferry runs trips to the lighthouse on a group basis.
Fire Island Pines 
The Fire Island Pines is the Islands largest town with 700-home gay friendly community neighboring Cherry Grove. It is also known as "The Pines". The Fire Island Pines consists of boardwalks and some of the Islands most premier real estate. Fundraisers and parties are popular in the Pines, as is the annual “Invasion of the Pines” event. The Fire Island Pines is perfect for weekenders and boasts a grocery market, liquor store, boutiques and restaurants. The Sayville ferry offers access to The Pines.
Fire Island Summer Club 
One of Fire Islands most premier and sought after communities, the Fire Island Summer Club is exclusive and privately owned. The Summer Club has a yacht club, tennis court, beaches and bay area that is available strictly to homeowners. Trespassing is strictly forbidden. Residents of the summer club have only a 10 minute walk to Ocean Beach as well as other amenities. The Summer Club has few rental spots for the summer season.
Kismet 
Kismet is Fire Island’s westernmost point and is quite the party village. It is home to many house parties, nightclubs, bars and a vivacious nightlife. It is a paradise for singles! Kismet is a popular destination for summer share rentals and many people return each year for its exciting nightlife. The town is accessible by car through Robert Moses Beach. From there, it is a 15-minute walk to restaurants, the liquor and grocery store and pizzeria. Kismet marina has 100-boat slips and it is filled with both party-goers and those seeking a get-away. The Fire Island Ferry offers service to Kismet from the Bay Shore Ferry Terminal.
Lonelyville 
Lonelyville is one of the first villages to be established on Fire Island. The community of Lonelyville doesn’t have any stores, bars or crowds and it is secluded attracting those who wish for absolute privacy and retreat, hence the name. Lonelyville has modest beach cottages as well as more modern homes on the west end. The residents of Lonelyville get the best of both worlds, absolute privacy and a short walk to neighboring villages filled with amenities.
Sailors Haven 
If you’re looking for a day trip to Fire Island, Sailors Haven is the place to be! It is maintained and protected by the National Seashore and does not have any residential living. You can easily venture into the Sunken Forest through Sailors Haven and explore public beaches, picnic areas and great ice cream. Sayville Ferry provides access to Sailors Haven and Sunken Forest.
Saltaire 
If you’re a family in need of a quiet vacation, Saltaire offers just that. It is beautifully landscaped and is filled with sports fields, basketball court, tennis courts, and a Yacht club offering a regatta and sailing instruction. Residents of Saltaire take pride in their family atmosphere and have commercial zoning enforced to keep the town free of excessive businesses. Saltaire hosts an annual bluegrass festival and arts and crafts fair. It is exclusive and has a library, post office, liquor store, food market and town hall. These amenities enhance the charm of quiet Saltaire.
Seaview 
Seaview is one of the most ideal and sought after communities on Fire Island. Seaview is a great place for residential living as it has a quiet village feel and is pretty much self contained with a private marina, sports courts, beach and playground. Seaview is in a great location in between Ocean Bay Park and Ocean Bay, and is quite desirable. Seaview also runs youth events and hosts many island community activities. Seaview has gorgeous architecture with sleek modern buildings as well as older looking cottages and landscaping. Fire Island Ferry to Seaview leaves from Bay Shore Fire Island Ferry Terminal.
Smith Point
Smith Point is the home of the only surfing competition on Fire Island and is filled with wide beaches and high sand dunes. Smith Point is located on the most eastern point of the island and is attached to mainland via the Smith Point Bridge and William Floyd Parkway.
Sunken Forest 
Sunken Forest is a glorious natural wonder that cannot be missed. It is filled with tangled trees, hundreds of bird species and fantastic wildlife. A hike through Sunken Forest is a great way to spend your day out of the sun and in the wild. Sunken Forest is protected by the National Seashore.
Watch Hill
Also a part of the Fire Island National Seashore is a beautiful portion of land known as Watch Hill which has campgrounds, back country trails, nature tours, one restaurant and large public marina. Watch Hill is a haven for those that love to camp!
Water Island 
Water Island is a tiny and extremely exclusive and private beach village made up of about 50 houses on plots of Fire Island land. Davis Park is located to the east and Barrett Beach is to the west, while Water Island is located in between with a generous amount of land and space away from the rest of the Fire Island population. The seclusion offered by Water Island is treasured by its residents; there is ferry service through the Sayville Ferry.
