Sacrificing Battered Women To Save Money
It has taken many, many years for battered women to be taken seriously. Women have died and continue to die because of domestic violence. Years ago, the police would do nothing about it.
Now, Topeka, Kansas wants to not prosecute domestic violence cases in order to save money. Isn't that beyond shameful?
As of this writing, they have repealed it. Why was it even brought up to begin with? Something like this is a travesty. Battered women are demeaned as it is. Why make it worse by thinking about not prosecuting domestic violence cases?
Our founding sisters didn't burn their bras for nothing. How about the women who fought to give us the right to vote? Women have fought for themselves for hundreds of years and to even think about doing something like this is disgraceful! It would put us back so far if it ever came to pass.
All I know is that I'm keeping a close eye on this story now and in the future. If anything like this happens you can bet the farm I will be fighting... it bra-less and all!

I'm afraid if I say what I want I'll be permanently banned from AR. Really who thought this was a smart move?
Hi Cindy, I had to watch it also. If I were married to any of these people who made that decision, they'd be sleeping on the couch for a very long time just for thinking about it.
Jackie - Like Cindy (#1) - I will keep what I REALLY think to myself on this. But I'm sure you know. Having lived through domestic violence myself it galls me to see other women going through it and not protected. It also makes me insane when women stay with their abuser because they think there's no hope. Had a friend try and take an abuse victim to a SAFE House over the weekend only to be told the house was CLOSED for the weekend. Oh, excuse me that my abuser didn't attack me on YOUR schedule.
Keep us posted on this one for sure! And by the way, I came to your blog after you commented on our recent post "Yes Your Honor". There were so many comments that rather than try to answer them all, I have been visiting the blogs of those who commented. Thank you for YOUR comment!
Jackie - I am in shock. No sooner than did I click "submit comment" than the news comes on and they are talking about the fact that in Topeka Kansas domestic violence was voted by the city council to NOT be a crime. What is going on here???
Jackie, this is just outrageous. I can't believe it when I hear things like this, I also heard (to save money) that prisoners were being let out of jail early...exactly what is going on in this country??? Where are priorities?
